Arpinder Singh and Swapna Barman win gold for India at Asian Games.

Indian athletes win two golds and one Silver to move up the position of Indiain 2018 Games.  Arpinder Singh won Gold in Triple Jump to make it three gold medals for the athletic squad. He started the finals with a foul in his first attempt but made amends for it in the second jump. He leaped to 16.57m in his second attempt to claim lead in the event.

Arpinder was not satisfied with this and jumped to 16.77m in his third attempt which was enough for him to get Gold for India. He did not face any competition from other competitors in his event.

In fact, the Silver position went to Rustan Kurbanov of Uzbekistan with a jump of 16.62 cm who was 15 cm behind India. Arpinder should take a lot of confidence from this medal and win more medals in World level events. Another Indian in the fray Rakesh Babu finished 6th with 16.40m.

Swapna Barman got another Gold Medal for India in athletics. She had a total of 6026 points in  heptathlon to win her first medal at this level for the country. Swapna faced tough competition from Qingling Wang from China in her bid to win the title.

Chinese was leading the event till Javelin leg where Swapna threw the spear to 50.63 to snatch the lead from Wang. Indian maintained lead till the last event 800m to get the title of Asian Games Champion.

It was the first time she had crossed the 6000 point mark in her career. Swapna’s performance in each event of heptathlon were13.98s(100m hurdles),1.82m(High Jump), 12.69m (shot put), 25.34s (200m), 6.05m (Long Jump), 50.63m (Javelin throw) and 2:21.23 minutes ( 800m).

It was a superb performance by her in one of the toughest events in athletics. Swapna will surely take her performance to next level in order to win medals at international level for India. Another Indian in the fray Purnima Hembram finished fourth with a tally of 5837 points.

Dutee Chand ran another fabulous race to win her second medal in these Games. Dutee clocked 23.20s to claim a second silver medal for the country. Dutee was not in fray till the bend but took off in straight to push other competitors behind to get a medal. Gold went to Ediong Odiong of Bahrain with a timing of 22.96s.

She used her 100m speed perfectly and accelerated during the last 70m to put her all sufferings behind to win a medal at the biggest competition of the continent. Medals by Dutee will act as a spring for her to win medals for India in world level competitions.

In 1500m heats Jinson Johnson and Manjeet Singh with a timing of 3:49.50 and 3:50.59 minutes in heats, qualified for finals to held tomorrow. Indian men’s 4x400m relay team also qualified for finals with a timing of 3:06.48 minutes. We can surely expect medals in this two events.

Athletes are performing brilliantly at Jakarta Games and Sportingindia team firmly believes this will be the best ever games for Athletic contingent.
