Earlier, India entered the women’s team final by defeating top-seeded Malaysian team 2-0 in the semi-finals. In the first match, Joshna Chinappa defeated Individual Gold Medalist Nicol David in a thrilling five-set encounter(12-10,11-9,6-11,10-12,11-9)
Joshna played the match of her life to defeat a great player like Nicol David for the first time in her career. She started the match on a strong note by winning a close first set and carried the momentum to take the second set.
Nicol came back strongly to win the next two sets to move the match into a deciding set. Joshna held her nerves and had the hunger to win it and give India a 1-0 lead in semifinal tie. Joshna played really well against such a strong opponent and executed her strategy to perfection which was the key for her to win the match.
Dipika carried on from where Joshna left and dominated Leo Wee Wern in straight sets (11-2,11-9,11-7). Dipika did not even give a single chance for Wern to comeback in the match. She dominated her opponent to seal the tie in favor of India.
It was a remarkable performance by India to defeat such a strong Malaysian team and go into the finals. Indian team next faces second-seeded Hong Kong in finals and have a very good chance of getting a gold medal for the country. The team should have a strong strategy like they did in semifinals to defeat Hong Kong and win the title for the country.
