Jinson Jonhson and Women’s 4x400m relay team make it a memorable day for India at Asian Games

Athletic contingent wins two golds, one Silver and two bronzes to record their best performance for India at Asian Games stage. The day belonged to Jinson Johnson and Women’s 400m Quartet who won Gold for India and helped them move up the position in Jakarta Games.

Jinson Johnson ran a superb race to win a Gold in 1500m event and it was his second medal in these games. Johnson ran with the pack till 1400m and accelerated during last 100m to win his first gold at this level. He was the hot favorite to claim the title and he did it in style.

Indian ran a very tactical race and waited for the right opportunity to use his fast 100m kick to win the race. He used his 100m kick at the optimal movement in these games and crossed the finish line in first place.

Johnson clocked 3:44.72 minutes to win Asian games champion title after getting a Silver in 800m event. Second Place went to Amir Moradi of Iran who clocked 3:45.62 m. Another Indian in the fray Manjeet Singh finished fourth ( 3:46.52 m).

Women’s 4x400m relay team lived up to their expectation and won a fifth consecutive gold in this event at Asian Games. The Team of Hima Das, Poovama, Saritaben Gayakwad and Vismaya Velluva clocked 3:28.72 minutes to win the gold for the country. Bahrain came second with a timing of 3:30.61 minutes.

Hima Das started the race on a strong note and had a 30 m lead before passing baton to Poovama. She ran a very good second lap to maintain the lead and had a smooth exchange of it to Saritaben. Gayakwad ran the lap of her life to maintain the gap and hand it over to Velluva. Vismaya held off the challenge from Bahrain runner to maintain their superiority as a top relay team in Asia.

Men’s 4x400m Relay team ran a very good race to get a Silver medal for India. The Team of Muhammed Anas, Arokia Rajiv, Dharun Ayyasamy and Kunhu Muhammed clocked 3:01.85 m to bag a 10th Silver medal in Athletics at these games.

Team tried their best to catch the Qatar Runners but they had a brilliant race to break the Games record and ran 3:00.56 to win the Gold Medal. It was a very good performance by the Indian team and they should take a lot of confidence from it to win more titles at International Competitions. Indian Quartet looks very strong and his capable of winning medals at top level games

P.U. Chitra maintained her form to win a Bronze medal in 1500m event. This was her first medal at this level. Her Timing of 4:12.56 was good enough to get her a medal in these games. Gold and Silver Medal went to Bahrain runners. It was an excellent race from her and gain a lot of experience by running against these top runners from Bahrain. Chitra can be very proud of her medal and use it to achieve more heights in future.

Seema Punia threw the discus to 62.26m to get another Bronze for Country in Athletics. 35 year old used all her experiences to give a tough fight to Chinese Throwers who bagged the Gold and Silver Medal. She was not far away from taking the Gold which went to Chen Yang ( 65.26m). Seema did very well to get a medal in consecutive Asian games. Sandeep Kumari finished 6th with a throw of 54.61m.

Lakshmanan Govindan finished 6th in 5000m with a timing of 14:17.09 minutes. Overall it was a very good performance by the Athletic Contingent who had exceeded all the expectations to win 7 Golds, 10 Silvers and 2 Bronzes. The athletic squad had improved by leaps and bounds compared to last Asian Games. Sportingindia team appreciates all the persons contribution to the success of Indian Athletes at Jakarta Games.
