In 2016 she became the first athlete representing India to win a silver medal in badminton at the Olympic Games by finishing runner-up in the singles event in Rio de Janeiro. In 2013 she became the first Indian female to claim a medal in the singles event at the world championships when she took bronze in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China.
