The shooting contingent is going to compete in all the 18 events which are going to be held in the games. Now we are going to analyze the chances of Indian shooters in events which they have chances of winning medals.
10m Air Rifle (Men, Women, and Mixed)– Ravi Kumar and Deepak Kumar will be representing India in Men’s 10m Air Rifle. Both of them have the capacity to score above 626.0 in qualifying rounds to qualify for the finals. The finals will be a test of nerves and concentration as all the shooters start from zero in finals. We can expect both Ravi and Deepak to enter finals and they will face a tough challenge from the Chinese Shooters in Finals. According to our analysis, atleast one of the two will be able to win a medal in this event.
ApurviChandela and ElavenilValarivan are the two to represent India in Women’s 10m Air Rifle. Apurvi is a very experienced shooter and has participated in lot of international competitions and Elavenil is already an established star in the Junior circuit and won many medals for India in international competitions. All the women shooters are trying to adapt to the change in increase of 40 shots to 60 shots. Both women have skillsets and experience to reach finals after that it will boil down to shooters who are able to execute their skills perfectly. The Indians will face tough competition from Iranian and Chinese Shooters in finals. According to our analysis, at least one of two will be able to win a medal in this event.
India’s best chance of winning gold lies in 10m Mixed Air Rifle as they are fielding their best and experienced shooters in the form of Ravi and Apurvi. They will face challenges from the Chinese but they are expected to beat them and secure the gold.
50m Rifle Three positions ( Men and Women) – Akhil Sheoran and Sanjeev Rajput in Men’s Category are capable of scoring above 1170 when they are shooting their best performance. If they are able to score over 1165 in qualifying rounds of games, they can secure a spot in finals. Sanjeev and Akhil have to be psychologically stronger to win medals and will face tough competition from Chinese and Korean Shooters.
Anjum Moudgil is one of the consistent performers in this category and she has won a silver and secured two fourth place finishes in all worlds cups held this year. After the introduction of new rules, Anjum has been able to adapt and shoot a world record score of 1180 in one of the world cups after the introduction of new rules. If she is able to keep her performance, a gold medal can be assured withstanding challenges from Chinese and Korean Shooters. Gayathri N is an upcoming shooter and if she is able to perform to her full potential an spot in finals will be secured. A medal from Gayathri will be a sweet bonus for the country.
10m Air pistol ( Men,Women and Mixed) – Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma are quite new to senior international competition but they have earned it through consistent performances in selection trials set by National Federation. They have to score above 580 in qualifying to get into the finals. In Finals they will face a tough challenge from Korean and Chinese Shooters. A lot is expected out of Saurabh because of its performances in Junior level.
Manu Bhaker the 16-year-old and Heena Sindhu have proven themselves at international competitions. Now it is time that they carry their performances into Games and win medals for the country. Both of them are capable of scoring very high scores in qualifying and finals. If they are able to repeat their performances, gold medal for India can be ensured in this category.
In the Mixed team event, a medal can be expected from the pair of Manu Bhaker and Abhishek Verma. They will face tough challenge from China andKorea in their quest for Gold Medal.
25M Rapid Fire Pistol and Sports Pistol ( Men and Women) —-Anish the 16-year-old in men’s category have shown a lot of good performances in World Cups. He is one who is expected to win a medal for India in Rapid Fire Pistol. If Anish scores above 575 in qualifying rounds, a spot in finals is secured. In finals, he will face tough challenge from Korean and Chinese shooters.
RahiSarnobhat in Sports Pistol is the hope for a medal for India. The 28-year-old has competed in a lot of competition and gained a lot of experience and exposure. Rahi has to score above 575 in Qualifying and go into the finals. The experience gained by her will help to withstand the pressure of finals and secure a gold for India.
In Shotgun events Manavajit Singh Sandhu ( Trap), Ankur Mittal ( Double Trap men) and Sheyasi Singh ( Trap and Double Trap) are capable of producing good performances and winning medals for India. Other than these shooters a lot cannot be expected from other competitors in shotgun events.
Analysis done by Sportingindia team reveals India will be able to win 4 or 5 Gold Medals and surpass the tally of 2014 games. Overall India team will be able to win 9 or 10 medals of different colors.Shooting Profile
